Ditch Witch Mid-States Skid Steer Attachments Create Multi-Functional Machines

by: Jessica Hoover
Ditch Witch Mid-States, an underground utility and light construction equipment dealership, offers equipment and services to professionals that work in site reclamation, landscape construction, tree service, and rental – as well as those that locate, install, and remediate pipe and cable underground. The dealer’s service and application specialists live and work locally and are supported by full-service branches in Columbus, Ohio; Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; and Shepherdsville, Kentucky – along with regional service centers. The branches provide local training and support, parts availability, reliable service and response, along with new, used, and rental equipment inventories to customers throughout the region.

Ditch Witch Mid-States sells and rents a variety of new and used equipment, including vacuum excavators, vibratory cable plows, trenchers, utility locators, moles, HDD, mini skid steers, and loaders. The skid steers, specifically, have a multitude of attachments that can transform a mini or full-size skid steer into a multi-functional machine.

Stand-On Skid Steers in Mini and Full-Size
From landscaping and hardscapes to tree care and construction-grade tasks, the stand-on mini and full-size skid steer has the capability to take on a number of diverse projects. The brand new SK3000 stand-on skid steer brings strength to construction-grade jobs, with a lighter weight than traditional skid steers.

“The SK3000 is a stand-on skid steer,” said Matt Di Iorio, President of Ditch Witch Mid-States. “You can see 360 degrees, get on and off easily, and go places and do things with this machine that can be more challenging with a full-size sit-in skid steer. The operating capacity, at over 3,100 pounds, is very competitive with the names that you’re familiar that sell the ride-in, the sit-in skid steers. We’re pretty excited about this. It offers ride control, dual self-leveling, as well as a variety of standard features that you’ll only find on full-size track loaders in the market today.”

Ditch Witch Mid-States’ mini skid steers include the SK1050, SK1550, SK600, SK800, and the Zahn Tool Carrier. The skid steers’ smaller size provides better maneuverability when working in compact spaces, without compromising on productivity and versatility.

“The mini skid steers have similar benefits to the SK3000, the only difference is that they’re a different size class,” Di Iorio said. “We have five different skid steer loader models, starting with 600-pound capacity and ending with the 3,000, which is actually around 3,100.”

All of Ditch Witch Mid-States’ skid steers have the ability to convert into a machine the customer application requires, using the company’s complete line of attachments.

Versatile Attachments for Skid Steers
One machine can turn into a multi-functional workhorse with versatile Ditch Witch skid steer attachments. For whatever job a customer is faced with, there is an attachment available from Ditch Witch Mid-States for purchase. Some are also available to rent.

“Most contractors are looking at these types of equipment because they improve production, reduce manual labor, and make it easier to find and keep the best employees,” Di Iorio said. “We offer dozens of attachments for both our mini skid steers and full-size skid steers. All of those attachments are designed to be universally compatible, so they can be used on other makes and models of mini and full-size skid steers as well.”

Attachments include a wide variety of buckets, pallet forks, post hole diggers, stump grinders, soil conditioners, carry all levelers, backfill blades, rototillers, power rakes, grapples, trenchers, plows, augers, and more.

In addition to the regular bucket attachment, Ditch Witch Mid-States also offers a light materials bucket attachment. The bucket attachment ranges in size from a width of 34 inches to 60 inches, with a capacity of less than a quarter of a yard up to half a cubic yard. The light materials bucket width is 44.5 inches with a capacity of .419 cubic yards.

“Buckets are the No. 1 attachment we sell, and we sell those in a variety of configurations,” Di Iorio said. “Whether the customer wants to dig in dirt or other materials, there are a wide variety of bucket configurations that we can offer.”

The pallet fork attachment simplifies loading and unloading pallets and goods. There are fork lengths available in 36 inches, 40 inches, 48 inches (full-size plate), and 48 inches.

The purpose of the carry all leveler attachment is to level or grade uneven soil in a width of 49 inches, and the backfill blade attachment backfills materials into a trenched hole or opening. The backfill blade has the option of a manual blade or hydraulic blade conversion kit.

Ditch Witch Mid-States’ rototiller attachment tills the soil to prepare for planting, gravel replacement, building, and more. The power rake attachment is a hydraulic-powered rake that levels or grades uneven soil to also prepare for planting, gravel placement, building, etc. The rototiller tills in a width of 4 feet. Similarly, the power rake rakes in a width of 4 feet.

The grapple attachments are available as a hydraulic tree grapple or a brush grapple. The hydraulic tree grapple picks up, transports, and helps to load and unload trees or logs, and is only available for select models of skid steers. The brush grapple picks up and transports landscaping debris and helps to load and unload trees or logs. It has gap openings of 29 inches with a width ranging from 42 inches to 54 inches.

Customers can cut trench to bury underground utilities such as water, gas, electric lines, and more with the trencher attachments. The micro-trenching attachment can cut through asphalt or concrete to help utility contractors install fiber optic cable with ease. It is only available for select models and has a depth max of up to 9 inches and a width max of up to 2 inches.

“The micro-trencher attachment saws concrete or asphalt so customers can lay fiber right in the road,” Di Iorio said. “It’s a very effective tool, and brand new to the fiber market.”

Vibratory plows can also be used to bury underground utilities. The plow attachment has a depth max ranging from 14 inches to 24 inches based on the skid steer model selection. The auger driver attachment is used to dig holes for post or fence installation, building construction, and planting trees. It has auger diameters ranging from 6 inches to 30 inches with a length ranging from 1 to 3 feet.
