Skanska Celebrates Topping Out Milestone at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center’s Renovation and Expansion Project

RICHMOND, VA — Skanska recently reached a milestone by topping out at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia, where it is providing renovation and expansion services. Construction includes renovations to existing spaces and the addition of two floors to help the hospital meet patient needs and provide more acute care services.

The topping out signifies the placement of the highest beam on the project. Representatives from Skanska, Bon Secours, JLL, Gresham Smith, and Skanska’s construction partners, commemorated the event by signing the beam, which was then placed atop the facility.

“As a leader in health care construction, it is an honor to bring our expertise to Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center,” said Greg Peele, General Manager and Executive Vice President responsible for Skanska’s North Carolina and Virginia building operations. “This milestone demonstrates the significant progress we have made on this important community resource that supports Bon Secours’ mission to improve the health and wellbeing of the people in the greater Richmond region.”

The expansion aspect of the project includes adding two floors above the existing surgical department, a new med-surg nursing unit with 24 beds, an additional intensive care unit (ICU) with 24 beds, and neonatal intensive care unit rooms.

As part of the renovation of the existing building, the former ICU unit on the third floor will be renovated to accommodate a 10-bed observation unit. The fourth floor of the adjacent medical office building will be reconfigured to serve as a new 24-bed Mother-Infant Unit with a well-baby holding nursery.
