TXAPA Recaps Managing Asphalt Pavements Conference and Tradeshow

The Texas Asphalt Pavement Association's (TXAPA) 2024 Managing Asphalt Pavements (MAPS) Conference and Tradeshow was an incredible success, leaving over 400 attendees and exhibitors informed and educated on the future of asphalt pavement management. Held over two days at the BASE at Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas, the event brought together industry leaders, exhibitors, and passionate professionals, all dedicated to advancing the industry of asphalt pavement.

One of the highlights of the conference was hearing from NASCAR driver, Bayley Currey. Currey is making waves in the NASCAR world, rejoining Niece Motorsports this season to drive the No. 41 Chevrolet Silverado for the full NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Last season, his partial schedule with Niece Motorsports resulted in impressive performances, including three top-five and four top-ten finishes. Currey was able to speak on his unique insights and experiences with racing on asphalt pavements.

The educational sessions were a standout feature, starting with the foundational "Why Asphalt?" which delved into the essentials of asphalt pavement, including terminology, materials, mix types, and binders. These sessions, led by experts with extensive knowledge and experience, provided invaluable learning opportunities for attendees. Their passion for educating others on the significance of managing asphalt pavements was evident, making each session both informative and inspiring. To support the educational sessions, TXAPA introduced its new Asphalt Pavement Design and Construction Guide and Specification 341M! Both resources were developed with Texas cities, counties, and private project owners in mind.

Congratulations are in order for the recipients of the 2022 and 2023 Texas Quality Asphalt Pavement Awards. Their dedication to quality and innovation in asphalt pavement is commendable. TXAPA President Glen Dvorak (Hunter Industries, Ltd.) and TXAPA Quality Paving and New Technology Chair Robert Lee (CRH Americas) were pleased to present the awards to the following winners:
