NEW YORK, NY — Turner Construction Company recently began construction on a residence building for Weill Cornell Medicine’s medical and graduate students in New York City. When completed, the project will nearly double the institution’s student residential living space.

The 16-story residence building will provide 272 beds for medical and graduate students. The building will also contain study nooks and meeting rooms, a fitness center, yoga and music rooms, a student lounge with access to an outdoor garden, a multipurpose activity court, and a rooftop lounge with an adjoining terrace.

The project team will pursue LEED Gold certification. The energy-efficient building will feature all-electric HVAC technology, including air cooled air source heat pumps. The building will also conserve water and have energy-efficient light fixtures.

“We are very excited to begin work on this project that will significantly improve the living environment for Weill Cornell Medicine’s future doctors and scientists,” said Christopher Zegler, Vice President and General Manager, Turner Construction Company.

The 173,000-square-foot residence building is expected to be completed in spring 2025.
