Brasfield & Gorrie Receives Safety and Health Recognition in North Carolina

ASHEVILLE, NC — Brasfield & Gorrie recently received accreditation from the Safety and Health Achievement and Recognition Program (SHARP) for its Mission Hospital for Advanced Medicine project. North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry presented the team with a certificate of completion during a jobsite visit. The project team has worked in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) since October 2016.

SHARP is one of the state’s most prestigious safety programs and is administered by NCDOL. Participants are construction worksites with comprehensive safety and health programs.

“Safety is Brasfield & Gorrie’s top value, and we are honored to partner with NCDOL to underscore this commitment. We take every opportunity to ensure the safety of our employees and trade partners,” said Troy Ogden, Brasfield & Gorrie Vice President and Corporate Safety Director.

Construction companies request evaluation for the program. A consultant then visits the site to identify any safety or health hazards and to evaluate the site’s work practices. The consultant also reviews written programs and shares findings and recommendations in a closing conference. After the visit, the consultant provides the construction site with a detailed report that identifies findings and recommendations.

SHARP accreditation shows a company’s dedication to safety and health. NCDOL reports that, by involving employees in this process, SHARP accredited businesses keep costs down and productivity up. The businesses are also subject to fewer Occupational Safety and Health compliance inspections. Brasfield & Gorrie is pursuing this accreditation for additional North Carolina projects. The company has received safety accolades on other projects, including Voluntary Protection Program Star certification for a Raytheon Missile Systems project in Tucson, Arizona.

Mission Hospital for Advanced Medicine will be a 12-story, 615,000-square-foot surgical tower. It will include 220 patient beds, of which 44 will be ICU rooms, as well as a newly expanded emergency department with 94 prep/recovery exam rooms, 10 operating rooms, 40 PACU bays and a rooftop helipad.
